Процесот на стерилизација се изведува на принципот на емисија на УВ светлина, со користење на гермицидна УВ ламба.
Со тестирање на УВ ламбата на Одделот за екотоксиколошки истражувања, во Заводот за заштита на трудот, официјално е потврдено нејзиното гермицидно дејство.
УВ стерилизатор може да се применува само за стерилизирање на предмети кои не доаѓаат во контакт со крв и други телесни течности.
Пред стерилизација во УВ стерилизатор, предметот треба да се исчисти и хемиски да се дезинфицира со употреба на алкохол или други средства за дезинфекција.
